Default Colored bullets. Yay or nay? (Images attached)

This has been bugging me. Some people on another forum have complained about the fact the bullets I'm using in Cavadius are shades of grey. I went with this to try and maintain the Gradius theme, but apparently that isn't gonna work with some people. however, I'm not able to completely replace the classic bullets, so I came up with a compromise...A Bullet Color option in the Game Options that lets you swap between Classic (Gradius Grey) and Manic (Blue and Pink and stuff).

Below are some shots of the colored bullets. Do these look alright, or should I change the shades?

Blue blue...(Bad Earthbound joke)

So pretty, but SO PAINFUL!

Call his pink bullets a girly color and you'll be sorry.

Get blown up by the rainbow. Taste the rainbow.

Personally, I think the problem is a lack of variety in the bullets themselves. You end up looking at this mass of grey and not knowing what's going where. So in this vein, just changing to masses of blue and pink might not be the best thing. The honoring Gradius part is understood, but other shapes/sizes couldn't hurt.

Default Include the option

I say include the option for colored bullets, because it seems like most people want them. Personally, I like the white, but that's just me :)

I prefer the classic grey bullets, but if it helps the game make the options to change bullet colors so.

I myself perfer the classic grey, maybe you could make them lighter to help keep them from blanding with the background like maybe a more whitish color than grey.

I like the colors, but I agree that it's best left at optional. The blue looks great, but to me the pink looks a bit too saturated or something. One suggestion though would be if the bullets could rotate depending on their direction. You could simply use image_alpha (if you're registered of course), but then again it might not look good if it distorts them.

I'm not registered and I can use image_alpha, I just can't use sprite blending.

Silly me, I meant to say 'image_angle'. I use it pretty often, but it sometimes causes some distortion (especially with something small, such as a bullet)

I've got a solution to your coloured bullet problem:

You've forgotten that in all of the Gradius games, bullets are of uniform colour and shape... except in Salamander 2.

They had all sorts of different bullets in that game... and they're generally more interesting than pallette-swapped and enlarged versions of the 'standard' Gradius bullet. And since Cavadius is pretty much a spiritual descendant of Salamander 2 anyways, this seems like a perfect fit.

I have to agree with L, it's not enough to just color the bullets. In Dodonpachi, the bullets are of all sorts of crazy shapes and sizes (not to mention hit properties). The variation helps greatly, as you can identify the source and pattern immediately upon seeing the bullet (at least after playing a few times).

Plus, the Bacterians should have more than one type of weapon (I must admit, a hard, sharp crystal flying at mach 30 would probably hurt...)
